The Codex Contact Point of Nigeria is the link with the Codex
Alimentarius Commission (CAC) which is the Joint FAO/WHO Food
Standards Programme. The CAC has its Headquarters in Rome. It is an
intergovernmental body with over 170 members with the purpose of
protecting the health of consumers and ensuring fair practices in
the food trade. The Commission also promotes coordination of all
food standards work undertaken by international governmental and
non-governmental organizations.
Membership of the Commission is open to all member Nations and
Associate Members of FAO and WHO which are interested in
international food standards.
Nigeria is a full member of the Commission with Codex Contact Point
domiciled in the Standards Organisation of Nigeria
